JOINT REPLACEMENT INFORMATION

• Dr Mamo offers comprehensive evaluations at your consultation to determine the best treatment plan for your orthopaedic condition and will work with you to create a personalised care plan that meets your unique needs.

• Dr Mamo performs all Knee and Hip Joint Replacement Surgery at Calvary Riverina Hospital.
• For patients proceeding with a Total Knee Replacement or Total Hip Replacement you are required to attend  pre-admission clinic at Calvary Hospital prior to surgery.
• Bookings are essential. 
• Calvary Hospital can be contacted on (02) 69 25 30 55 and ask for pre-admission clinic.    

• You will be required to have pathology tests prior to surgery and must organise to have - bloods and swabs a minimum 3 weeks prior to surgery.  For patients coming from regional areas, we suggest that you make your pre-admission clinic appointment within the 3 week timeframe prior to surgery and have bloods and swabs done at DHM Calvary Hospital on the same day to minimise your travel to Wagga Wagga. 

• Pathology request forms will be provided by Dr Mamo's rooms together with your Calvary booking form.   If you have any queries please telephone the rooms on (02) 69 25 30 88.

• Please deliver printed xrays films to Dr Mamo's rooms at 30 Docker Street, prior to surgery as they are required for templating and planning your procedure or alternatively if it is not at all possible to deliver them prior to surgery bring them with you to hospital on the day of your procedure.
• Please bring to hospital:
•  your medications in their labelled containers or in the Webster pack.   Do not bring loose tablets in a bag.
• Loose fitting comfortable clothes for your hospital stay.
• Supportive shoes, something relatively flat with a rubber sole or soft low heel shoes with closed backs.    Ensure your shoes are not tight fitting so that they can accommodate any swelling.

• Stop herbal supplements two weeks prior to surgery.   This includes things like Fish Oil, Krill Oil, St John's Wort, Glucosamine with or without Chondroitin Sulphate as these medications can interact with prescribed drugs and they can also lead to increased bleeding during the operation.  If you are unsure of whether you should continue or stop any medications please ring Dr Mamo's rooms and check with Dr Mamo.   

• Do not smoke tobacco products for at least 24 hours prior to surgery.
• Do not drink alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to surgery.
• Make any alterations or adjustments needed in the home prior to surgery to ensure a smooth transition from hospital to the home on discharge from hospital.

• You must ring Calvary Hospital the day prior to surgery to find out your admission time and obtain fasting instructions.  Ph: (02) 69 25 30 55.

• Post operative appointments will be required after discharge from hospital.   A post operative appointment will be made for you upon discharge from Calvary Riverina Hospital.

Our friendly staff at Dr Mamo's rooms can be contacted (02) 69 25 30 88 at any time during business hours if you have any questions or are unsure of something.   We have a registered nurse employed on a part time basis and if our reception staff cannot help you with your queries a message can be forwarded on to the nurse who will be able to contact you when she is in our rooms.
